Opening Reception

Shanghai Seminary opens at 3262 S. Morgan St., Chicago, IL. Running from November 8th to January 20th, the gallery’s inauguration presents an installment of two contemporary cultural collectives’1,2 respective video productions revolving two historical revolutionary individuals—the Chinese feminist and reformer Wang Huiwu (1898–1993) and the American minister and activist Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–1968).
1Duan Xin is the Artistic Director at Jiaxing Center for
News and Media (Corporate). She has produced
legal and social television programs such as Lines
of
Law, Truth & Feeling Online, Interviewing
Now, and Life Warm & Cold
at Jiaxing Television Station. When those programs were
discontinued, she briefly
worked on variety shows before she devoted herself to
historical-biographical documentaries in 2012. Her
recent productions include award-winning The Last Special
Force (2014) and Wang Huiwu (2019). She is
currently directing a documentary on the Hong Kong wuxia novelist
Louis Cha Leung-yung aka Jin Yong.
